Noise Tank represents in many senses a ‘giant collaboration project’ for Detroit-based electronic producer Doc, with this debut four-track EP roping in the skills of a selection of likeminded Detroit folk to fuse a curious blend sitting somewhere between wistful indie-emo pop and more experimental electronics. While offerings such as ‘Wreakless For A Wasted Youth’ place subtle glitchy processing beneath girlish pop vocals and crashing rock drums, suggesting some strange collision between Go-Gos-esque power-pop and the Warp label’s roster, the focus is upon tunes (though there’s certainly plenty of little details to be picked up on headphones). If Stereolab went back to high school and got razzed up on Fanta in a practice room full of instruments, it might sound a little like this.
