Watch Doug Hream Blunt play “Ride the Tiger” on public access TV and never understand music the same way again

In 1985 at the age of 35 Doug Hream Blunt took a “How to Form a Band” class in San Francisco taught by a drummer called Victor who also schooled Doug in guitar, which is curious because Victor didn’t really know how to play the instrument. His classmates formed Doug’s backing band. A few times they played on a public access TV show, and this is one of them.

He ended up releasing an album and EP that never made it out of the Bay Area. But enough people found it, including Ariel Pink, UK artist Dean Blunt who named himself in Doug’s honour, and David Byrne who is releasing a Doug Hream Blunt collection next week on his Luaka Bop label.
