B Lewis – Plug EP (Jus Like Music)

If you consider the insistent repeated samples of soul crooners and divas forming a sort of chorus with game boy effects and insistent gleaming metallic attack melodic beats, with a slight warped dint in them to be your cup of tea then the ‘Plug ep’ by B. Lewis will do you no wrong. It starts with ‘Plug’, ‘Black Zinfandel’ and ‘Lavacorn’ three tracks high on dancefloor madness, all brimming with action and insistence before slowing down with ‘Cancel that’s and the drug worship hip-hop, siren laden, ‘Code (x)’. Then there is a classically styled Synth number that warms up like a cinematic theme from the seventies before launching into the soul vocal takes that could easily inhabit a house album and then the video game and slap beat construction takes over in a stop start twisted house style. ‘Les Saisons’ has the scratch-patter- hiss background with a naive sample and chorus along with it’s melodic charm. ‘Trouble’ is a great indulgent melancholy track, the vocal takes you in and the sampled metallic shaking adds to the sense of atmosphere as does the mournful trumpet sound. It’s quite a diverting ep and will entertain all those with a hip-hop house bent that don’t mind insistent video game effects and melodic saturation built for dancefloor mayhem.
