A Produce & Loren Nerell – Intangible (Hypnos)

When all the hype died down from ambient trance numerous years ago it did not stop people treading this path and making long importune music statements in this genre. This is a contemporary form of the genre, albeit better produced than a number of the efforts from the early 1990’s. The title track is all extended synth tones, plink plonk melodies and sculpted bass. ‘Planet Atmo’ is brooding atmospheric effects, remnants of chorus, a building immanence and eventually a tangible atmospheric presence. ‘String Theory’ is more interesting for it’s percussive constructions that move into an Asian influenced tableau with chimes and bamboo flute it holds a complexity that is generally missing in other tracks. ‘Area 51.1’ although humorously titled has little to offer that some electronic film work has not passed by before. ‘Lost in Transformation’ is a static and grainy melange of drones that develop a state that is neither enticing nor entirely interesting, a sort of nebulous meditative state that suggests it’s title. Meadow dust’s breaks open an optimistic attitude with pads and bright tonal drones which meander along for a good 6 minutes. ‘Pot covers at dawn’ is a fairly tepid evocation of place an atmospheric sub gleam and hiss with intermittent deep drum flourishes and a sense of a morning ambiance.
