Leonardo Rosado – Opaque Glitter (Feedback Loop)

Opaque Glitter Cover Art

Leonardo Rosado makes ambient music pairing field recording with electronic drones and tones, although the exact source of the latter is difficult to determine. Opaque Glitter delights in this confusion, along with a blurring of melody and abstraction, but throughout Rosado favours sombre hues reminiscent of Angelo Badalementi.

Beginning with the jangle of keys, opener “Leaving and Staying” unlocks the album with sustained organ tones washing over fumbled metal. “Dancing and Falling” employs bolder sounds, with clear digital pops offsetting a heavy creak like a building collapsing. “Soft like Leaves Falling” describes the events that take place in the final track, along with wind blown trees and vivid crystalline drones made of white ice. This is a beautiful collection, generally closer to menace than bliss but revelling in an ambivalence between these two states.
