Offthesky – Endless Yonder (SEM)

Jason Corder, on this album stresses the notes more discretely; brandishing each in its moment and stretching out possibilities, letting them linger on the ear before release and entertaining a new sound. While they occur in slow cycles, the play of effects mutates gently moving the scene and then slowly the sense of movement is created. It is a ponderous album generally and Corders introduces some distortion elements to his guitar work creating breaks in the liquid ambience created predominately by electronic means. Corder is quite prolific at the moment, Endless Yonder is his third album of 2011 and the development is in the subtlety of technique achieving a more flowing, it holds a deeper richer palette. It is polished and lush in textures, the ethereal vocals of Sarah Chung hang in the mix like a fog and there is the seemingly otherworld like feel to the atmosphere. Corder produced, mixed and mastered this album himself and it aims towards a more atmospheric pace than the recent “The Beautiful Nowhere.” However in comparison it does not hold the same edge in production that “The Beautiful Nowhere” achieved, it explores less new territory but consolidates ground gained in development into a deeper presentation.
