Idepthz and Son Of A Bricklayer

Idepthz and Son Of A Bricklayer have collaborated on this new Vulgar release, a beautifully crisp vinyl pressing, with nice artwork by Noizcut. Anyone familiar with Son Of A Bricklayer know the sounds will be dark, moody, brooding, and he doesn’ disappoint here, together with (an unknown for me) Idepthz, Esoteric Tone Poem encompasses all these things nicely. They like their drums dirty and dusty, eclectic psych samples, analogue synths and a love of hip-hop and the psychedelic sounds of the 60′ and 70′. Son Of A Bricklayer has previously released a beautifully packaged lathe cut vinyl release, and free digital releases on www.groundfloorrecords.com, gritty and claustrophobic productions, the mood continues on this release, but the production is more polished, the sounds more crisp.

“Esoteric Tone Poem Part One” loops abstract sounds not unlike early DJ Krush or DJ Shadow, adding driving breaks and drone ambience creating a foreboding mood carrying through the whole track. Its driving beat falls away to a dark ambient breakdown, before reintroducing the drums, heightening the tension. “Esoteric Tone Poem Part Two” takes a similar approach, the early MoWax style dusty samples, driving breaks, rolling bass, but the electronic tones on the b-side bring a lighter mood, maybe one of hope rather than darkness.

An ace 7” of fresh instrumental beats, if you enjoy the cinematic mood this style of music evokes, you should buy this immediately.
