Komponente – Picture Of Nothing (Rednetic)

0

This third volume in Rednetic’s ongoing techno-oriented limited 3″ CDR series comes from Kharkov, Ukraine-based producer Komponente, who first started producing tracks in 2005 and has previously had his productions included on netlabel compilations from Reamp3 and Deeplimit. In its original mix form, ‘Picture Of Nothing’ sees Komponente blending a icy, brittle synth pulse with vast enveloping sub-bass swells and shimmering, harmonic chords to create a ghostly excursion through deep, dubby minimalist techno that reveals the influence of Basic Channel and Pole. By contrast, Martin Schulte veers away from glitchy minimalist techno in favour of a cavernous electronic dub approach with his remix, removing the rhythmic backbone of the track and replacing it with clicking drum machine tics and rumbles of bass presence, the distant thunder beneath adding a sense of ominous atmosphere to the reverberating textures and detuned ripples of harmonic melody. Finally, Russian producer Waveform contributes a reworking that bends things back towards lush, streamlined techno whilst tossing in some additional elements of hi-hat shuffle that up the energy of the groove considerably, resulting in it easily being the most dancefloor approachable of the three tracks here. Fans of the likes of Basic Channel, Vadislav Delay and Pole will no doubt love this, and with the physical CDR run limited to just 100 copies (though a digital download is also available from Rednetic), it’s worth moving quickly.
