Three 7″ singles from the German Tapete Records label arrived to be reviewed, and it is definitely in the post-punk theme.
First up we have 1000 Robota with “Mein Traum” and “Hamberg Brennt”. Bursting with an energy somewhere between The Arctic Monkeys and The Buzzcocks, 1000 Robota deliver two slabs of angst ridden post-punk, that you could almost pass off as something released in that era, 1978 to 1980. Short sharp assaults of drums and guitar, if I only knew what they were saying!
Next is Dial M For Murder! This 7″ contains “Oh No!” and “The Mourning Comes The Morning After”, with a more controlled beast, more pensive and reflective, reminding me of early REM, or even quieter Joy Division moments. Paying homage to a more motorik kraut sound, this is a very interesting ep, worth checking out.
Lastly we have the Dutch Uncles 7″, “Face In” and “Jetson” are more melodic indie-pop songs, sounding more from now than from a time gone by.
Tapete Records seems to be a label to watch, especially with the current interest in the late 70s post-punk scene, and its refreshing to hear some modern takes on the genre.
