Talkingmakesnosense – Cloudcroft Mirror 7” (Benbecula Records)

0

Talkingmakesnosense, or Dominic Dixon who writes and records, have just released this very nice little 7” vinyl single which I’m sure would weigh more than a lot of 12” singles released today. This is by far the thickest piece of 7” vinyl I have seen in a very long time, and why does that matter you ask? Well, the quality of the pressing, the shear audio depth and dynamics are outstanding, yes its drone/ambient/shoegaze if you need to slot it into a specific genre, but the quality of the vinyl pressing really do this sound justice, its all about the subtle changes, the building tension, the wall of sound that slowly engulfs… “Cloudcroft Mirror” and “Summit Loop” are two very fine tracks in this genre, slowly building to a peek that isn’t too far removed from the start, but somehow evoking emotion, never venturing too far from the theme, but causing the maximum impact..

I don’t know a great deal about the band, but they do remind me of bands like Tarental, their experimentation always being the number one priority, and the joyous build of sound, really does bring back memories of discovering the 4 A.D. label in my youth. Some may believe this is music trying to emulate My Bloody Valentine, but I would have to disagree, yes, there are influences, but this is a fine record, standing on its own, uplifting and enriching. I thought I would never embrace beatless music again, but this has definitely encouraged me to investigate more. More info at www.benbecula.com
