Yoome - The Boredom Of Me

Some interesting names crop up on this album by Yoome, which is a collaboration between Chicago MC Serengeti and Renee Louise Carafice, a relatively unknown indie-folk artist from New Zealand. Produced by Chicago producer Tony Trimm, and featuring additional guitar work by Jeff Parker from Tortoise and Frankie H.

Recalling indie-pop sensibilities, not unlike bands such as Lali Puna and Casiotone For The Painfully Alone, you’d be mistaken in thinking this could be released on Morr Music, or even the new direction of Anticon. It has a warm lo-fi organic feel, Tony Trimm having a wistful approach to the production, adding layers of melodic sentimentality and sporadic bursts of digital encrusted rhythms.

Everything sits nicely, Yoome have struck a rare balance with each member adding something different to the mix, yet keeping a coherent whole, the vocals of Serengeti and Carafice complement each other perfectly, both having a warm tone that sits atop the icy melodies, bring a warmth to the songs.

Check this album out, its bursting with melody, innovation and an experimental edge that make for a very enjoyable and rewarding listen, they are not following a fashion, they are following their vision to create a unique and personal musical statement.
