Duopandamix – Infrarojo (Static Discos)

Mexican duo Guillermo Guevara and Gabriel Acevedo certainly love their old video games. Usually so-called ‘chip music’ celebrates the 8-bit melodies of the Commodore 64, but Duopandamix go even earlier on their second album recalling the days of the Atari 2600. Their spiky electro is laden with humour, old video game samples and bonus round melodies (tracks like Activision and Ondalux most obviously), but Infrarojo is no lightweight album. Pillaging hip hop, electro, garage and techno and laden with references to mid 80s pop culture, Infrarojo is full of floor filling quirks, glitches and booty shaking beats, and a few downtempo moments including the fantastic Space Terror Dub which recalls Meat Beat Manifesto.
