One of the last generations of the former Soviet Union, Svoy has definitely left his past behind and squarely aimed his sound to be synonymous with his new country, America, and it’s love of angst riddled indie pop. Although all the songs are electronic, each is written to pop song structure perfection, with verses, a chorus and coda on every track.
Opening with an emo ditty with a clean drum and bass beat, “Driving Away,’ and moving through to more pure pop song offerings in the vein of Kiss Chasy, David Gray, and sometimes Matchbox 20, all the production is nice, neat and has that homogenous clean sound indicative of soundcard production. Svoy has a lovely boyband-pretty voice and sings about his love and pain experiences. The vocals are really high up in the mix on each track, so in order to enjoy Svoy, you really need to like his voice and lyrics. I believe teenagers would.
