Mikkel Metal – Victimiser (Kompakt)

0

From Copenhagen via Cologne comes the second full length album from Mikkel Meldgaard. Having put out a stack of records on Echochord, this is his first album for Cologne’s Kompakt. Full of warm dub techno’s spacious echo chambers and gaseous hiss, shimmering synths from his earlier work, what also comes through on this album is some of his roots in 90s shoegazer indie. On the haziest and best vocal tracks it is almost as if My Bloody Valentine circa-Glider are jamming in the same studio as Maurizio and Pole, but some of the more straight up tech-house tracks are a little too generic. Still, Victimiser is a pretty solid album that will appeal to lovers of fellow Kompakt artist Superpitcher or ~scape’s Montreal connection Deadbeat, as much as those after a slightly leftfield tech house album for dark nights.
