T. Raumschmiere – I Tank U (Shitkatapult / Inertia)

This latest longplayer from Dutch noisenik Marco Haas under his T. Raumschmiere alias aims to complete the electro-rock triptych formed by his preceding albums ‘Radio Blackout’s and ‘Blitzkrieg Pop’. In many senses it’s also his most collaborations-heavy effort yet, with Puppetmastaz, German pop eccentrists Deichkind and Marco’s old punk band Crack Whore Society all making appearances amongst a tracklisting that veers from NIN-esque industrial rock, right through to digi-dancehall and crunked-up electro-hiphop. Unfortunate, while Haas has notably sidestepped the serrated ‘knarz’ sound he’s previously made his signature on this latest collection, what you’re left with is an album that tries to cover all the bases, frequently with somewhat awkward or forgettable results (see the painful garage ‘rock-out’s ‘What Are You Talking About?’). Can we have Quasimodo Jones back please? The third time around, this is sadly a bit of an anticlimax.
