The Sun Blindness - Like Pearly Clouds CD

I’ve been delving into the murky world of psychedelic sounds over the last few years, sampling notables and unheard artists from all over the globe, releasing obscure albums from the late 60′ to the late 70′, so receiving something more contemporary and current to review is always a pleasure.

From Melbourne, Duncan Eastley and Tor Larsen have created such a beautiful album, referencing much of the psychedelia I’ve been exposing myself too, as well as space-rock sounds of bands like Spacemen 3 and Sonic Boom. They’ve created this album with four track recorders, old mixing boards and multi-track recording programs, all at home, creating a big, beautifully dreamy sound with mainly just two guitars, delays, vocals and percussion, conjuring droning landscapes and beautiful harmonies not dissimilar to The Beach Boys. For me, this album reminds me of so many things, all of them good, portraying a blissful ambience, with moments of quiet, and shifting to more abrasive, loud interludes, I love this contrast, reminding me of the two great Talk Talk albums, Spirit Of Eden and Laughing Stock. I thought an album containing no drums would bore me, but the layers of guitar, looped, effected, the subtle percussion and dreamy vocals are all you really need, evoking a calm that suits a spring release very well, I sit here in my garden enjoying every chord enormously, seemingly more enhanced with the mass of birds singing discordantly behind me.

I recommend you investigate The Sun Blindness, they will fill your mellow moods with joy. Visit www.myspace.com/thesunblindness for more information on an Australian band that will soon be making waves around the world.
