This is for the Sydney folks, Melbourne had their chance at the film festival. Genius this wrong shouldn’t be missed.

this from the press release:

The film that started the midnight movies movement, El Topo, plays for one night only this Saturday at the Chauvel Cinema. Following a sell-out session at the Melbourne International Film Festival, The Holy Mountain will play the following week.
After more than thirty years of legal disputes Alejandro Jodorowsky’ provocative and ground breaking masterpieces are being officially released for the first time. Presented on new 35mm prints, these one-off screenings are not to be missed.
With the quasi-Western head-trip El Topo, Jodorowsky began the midnight movies phenomenon. Among the converts were John Lennon and Yoko Ono, who championed and funded the director’ surreal and sacrilegious The Holy Mountain.
After years of obscurity and poor quality bootleg releases these films are being officially released in Australia by Siren Visual. These very special screenings are being presented in conjunction with Filmink magazine and TwoThousand:

El Topo – 9pm, Saturday, 25 August
The Holy Mountain – 9pm, Saturday, 1 September
