‘Music To Draw To: Satellite’ is an uncharted journey for scratch DJ, producer, and composer Kid Koala (real name Eric San). A record of many firsts, the inaugural volume in the Music To Draw To collaboration series finds him working with a singer, writing lyrics, and producing and performing all instruments. ‘Satellite’ is the renowned audio-collagist’s first non-sample-based record, using an array of synthesizers, keys, guitars, basses, strings, turntables, noisemakers, and inventive recording techniques.
Now, Kid Koala’s released the celestial video for “Collapser” by director and chemical puppeteer Karina Bleau. Originally versed in the figurative forms of theatre puppeteering, the Montreal visual artist began working with the motion and emotion of chemical matter four years ago. Of her process, Bleau says:
“My work with chemicals explores the possible extensions of typical concepts of puppets. Chemical puppeteering is a research of the movement in matter that leads to natural patterns and the suggestion of forms, creating an other-worldly experience of beauty and presence. When Eric asked me to do the visuals for “Collapser,” I was excited to explore music as the performer – interpreting art, sound as chemical matter, patterns, and forms. The result is a dialogue between nature and magic, held in the vessel of the song.”
