Sleeparchive

Repitch Recordings is a relatively new German electronic music label run by Ascione, D. Carbone and Shapednoise, and this latest 12” only EP release comes split down the middle, with two new tracks from Berlin techno producer Sleeparchive featured alongside two new tracks from New York visual artist and veteran techno producer Mike Parker. On the A-side, Sleeparchive’s ‘Fifth Station’ kicks things off with a descent straight down into hammering mechanistic techno that calls to mind the likes of Planetary Assault System’s similarly relentless attack, as harsh distorted snares ring out through delay against a backdrop of thundering kicks and background static.

By comparison, ‘White Angel Breadline’ starts out more stealthy and creepy as urgent-sounding bleeps cycle against muffled kicks and jittery hi-hats, only for things to shift gears halfway into a more full-bodied rolls, the electronics hypnotically spiralling out against robust kick drums. On the flipside, Mike Parker’s ‘Flying Nerves’ gets more dark and spacious, sending laser gun-style zaps echoing out against pulsating backdrop of bass kicks and distant eerie ambient samples, before ‘Lustrum’ sees him closing this EP off with a more subtle wander out into squishy sounding treated tones and smoothly gliding rhythms that provides what’s easily this EP’s most restrained minimalist offering. One for those who like their techno to come in the darkest of hues.
