We hope you enjoy these incredible sounds.

This clip is from Wonogiri in Central Java. The bamboo mouth harp called rinding is being revived in a new form called rinding kompreng: here, the rinding is joined by the gong-like sounds of the kompreng (a kind of bamboo tube zither) along with percussion played on snail-shells and coffee glasses!

You can find more information and clips like this at Aural Archipeligo: Field Recordings From Indonesia, an amazing free resource you can find here, that was put together by Palmer Keen, an American ethnomusicologist who teaches English in Bandung to pay the bills and wanders the vast archipelago of Indonesia to find, document, expose and promote little-known traditional musics around the country.
