Watch one of the greatest performances you will ever see – Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s “Didn’t It Rain”

We’ve published it before and we’ll publish it again…Happy International Women’s Day from Cyclic Defrost…

Can it get any better than this? Sister Rosetta Tharpe playing ‘Didn’t It Rain’. Recorded in Manchester, England in 1964. It’s taken from the DVD ‘The American Folk Blues Festival: The British Tours’

Not surprisingly Tharpe enjoyed a popularity in the 1940s rarely attained by gospel musicians, pushing spiritual music into the mainstream thanks to her revolutionary guitar technique that would go on to influence the rock and roll of Chuck Berry and Elvis Presley. Enjoy.
