Atone & Das Berlin Kollektive – Mash Up DVD (self-released)

Very little information on this DVD, but these self released visual odysseys always take me back to the days of early Cryogenisis nights, and Punos chill out rooms, flailing on cushions gazing on random images, somehow evoking a story in your mind.

In the cutup style of Diplo, Das Berlin Kollektive mashup Atone tracks with a more cinematic approach to the visual cutup, like a modern day Koyaanisqatsi for the music enthusiast, club hopper, culture vulture and dance music slave. Movie sequences meshed with dance frenzies, television oddities and spliced close up collages. 28 tracks, sequenced to ebb and flow, just how DJ sets used to play, not a continuous mix of non-altering tempo’, but a soundtrack to take you on a journey, through film, television, dance and striking imagery, sprawled over two hours, a beautifully filmed, sequenced and altered feast for the eyes and ears.

Das Berlin Kollektive have excelled with the quality of the production, tying everything together, the dance sequences are synchronized with the music well in the most part, the movie sequences flow with the soundtrack, with cheesey video effects kept to a minimum, makes this very watchable. Something to throw on at the next house party, or chill to in the early hours, Atone will evoke those memories of great nights, friends and random strangers.
