Air Texture Volume 1 places itself somewhere between an act of curation (rather than selection) and the chill compilation of minimal ambient sound art. It steers clear of the slippery, liquid psychedelic mess of the more affected sounds that have pervaded this genre into a more pristine and crafted sound. Not that it is dry or without an emotional immediacy, the tracks all elicit a sonic depth to their tapestry and lie somewhere in the realms of glacial ambient, environmental soundscapes, sound art and a contemporary electronic minimalism.
This two disc, 25 track compilation is compiled by bvdub (Brock Van Wey) on the first disc and Andrew Thomas on the subsequent. Bvdub’s selection includes tracks by Rafael Anton Irisarri, Maps and Diagrams, Ian Hawgood and The Green Kingdom. The second disc includes Klimek, Chihei Hatakeyama, Biosphere, Markus Guentner, Atlas Sound and Wolfgang Voigt.
Air texture is a label founded by James Healy (Escape Art), co-founder of the Agriculture Records in Brooklyn. Forthcoming compilations are to be selected by loscil and Rafael Anton Irisarri, followed by Deadbeat and DJ Olive.
