Cyclic Defrost

An Australian magazine focusing on interesting music

Various Artists – Sequence 1 (Futuresequence)

Compilations at their best are art forms in creating a unified representation of a particular movement in forms of arrangements of sounds. Or there are other compilations that represent a group of people who have united either artificially or organically through a vehicle such as a label, a club, a dj, or in this case an internet magazine. It is an excellently constructed site, savvy to contemporary design and functionality as well as serving up great tracks, reviews and interviews. While such comments may give off a whiff of disloyalty to my compatriots at Cyclic Defrost, even the briefest perusal would convince the most style resistant person that form and content are wielded with aplomb on this site.

Not wanting to go laboriously through all the 42 tracks on the compilation let me just say that they represent a sampler of the cream of international experimentation with regards to electronic ambient/compositional music on the scene today. There are tracks from Maps and Diagrams, Talvihorros, ISAN, Keith and Hollie Kenniff, :papercutz, Birds of Passage & Leonardo Rosado, Pleq and Spheruleus, Zvuku among many others. Best of all it is Free here.
