I recently reviewed three 3” CD releases that came out on Electroton and mentioned that the fourth was snapped by my daughter . . . well the kind folks at the label sent me another copy and it may be the best of the bunch.
Like their label mates, Ketem (Shay Nassi aka Mise En Scene and Tom Kemeny aka Darmock) work in surgical clicks n’ cuts, sharpened pinpricks familiar from the work of Snd and Raster Noton, but on Colour there’s a sense of restrained calm, of unhurried ease, to their pointillism. Its almost pleasant to sit back and watch their skittish codeine rhythms unfold before you, almost like ambient music, but not quite. The colour in question comes from filigree sine tones, neon phone bleeps and creeping sub-bass, with the final track defined by drop-out absences to the strobing presence.
