Terrificolor – 3 EP (The Centrifuge)

Terrificolor

French electronic producer Terrificolor first surfaced last year with his debut ‘Murphi’ EP , and several months on this follow-up on UK netlabel The Centrifuge sees him continuing to craft contorted furious soundscapes that come across like the bastard spawn of post-IDM and breakcore. ‘Inslut’ opens proceedings here with a furious ride through twitching, unpredictable breakcore rhythms that manages to pack an underlying sense of electroid funk into its curvy bass synths, before suddenly descending down into a spooky horror-meets-rave shimmering synth section. By contrast, ‘Synchronisme’ kickstarts amidst cartoony sped-up rave riffs before squiggling acid lines work their way amidst growling bass presence and things suddenly drop down into a mass of treacherous breakdowns, before ‘Trois Francoisquante’ closes things off with harsh sawtooth synths curving their way between tooth-rattling breakcore snares in a suitably epic closer that manages to pack in an underlying sense of night-drive atmosphere. All up, this is suitably impressive stuff that should particularly appeal to fans of Venetian Snares and Bong-Ra – you can also download it for free from The Centrifuge.
