Kwaidan – Hoichi/Masaki (Highpoint Lowlife Digital)

Kwaidan - Hoichi

The first in a series of digital 12” releases from Highpoint Lowlife, kicking off with a one-off side project by Mat/Fisk Industries. Two tracks, both clocking in over eleven minutes, allowing for the slow burn approach. Each track slowly developing and morphing beyond what you’d expect… Hoichi starts off like a not-so-dubbed-out Rhythm & Sound, slowed dub techno with nice percussive touches, moving toward something almost dubstep, a relentless two note synth refrain over metallic soundscapes, with a ghostly tribal echo reminding me of Shackleton. Masaki starts with more ghostly voices, and a clean electronic steppers rhythm, until more metallic percussion washes over you.

This is a great percussive slow burner from Highpoint Lowlife, if you appreciate what Skull Disco release, this is a worthy progression. Keep an eye out for future releases www.highpointlowlife.com
