Well, the time has come for the final Vertigo on Fbi.
As I’ve previously ranted here, it’s going to be a sad day for me. Heading in along Parramatta rd to the studio at the end of a weekend was always the one time in my week that was really just for me. No bosses, no nagging wife (god bless ‘er), nobody at all except me, the listener and a box of great tunes.
I was going to make this last show the “penultimate” best of/favourite ever tunes type scenario, but then I thought that i’d do what I’ve always done for this timeslot and just put together a solid set of interesting sounds that mean something to me right here, right now, TODAY. Sure, some of them are tunes from my past, but there are plenty of tracks I have left out that could have been more worthy of my own personal choices, but it’s really all about flow, variety and an interesting set that hopefully piques your interest.
If this sounds like I’m blowing my own trumpet, then fuck it, I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that I hope that there will always be someone, somewhere merging music from the past and the present to show people where we’ve been and how the current hip flavour most likely spawned from something else that is sometimes overlooked in fear of retro/ageist leanings. I understand that some feel that people under 25 want to hear the Grates, MIA, crunk and electropop etc etc. But please don’t underestimate the youth and their open minded quest for the truth in music. And if you’re one of the young and you’re reading this…get out there and find what you love, don’t sit back and let someone else (myself included) tell you what’s going on!
Featuring a bunch of great songs, tonight’s final show also features guest appearances from Bill Murray, Dennis Hopper, Napoleon Dynamite, Neil Hamburger and more, I hope you’ll enjoy it along with me.
Finally, I want to thank once again, every person who has tuned in to hear the show over the past 3 years. I hope to be back someday, until then, check the blog(s) I’ve set up, and shitty old myspace for more musical/pop culture fun.

Lyndon Pike
