Hi folks,
It’s another action packed week in Melbourne.
Tonight (30th November), you can check out James Wilkinson launching his new record as Post. James’ performance at the last Symbiosis Listening Focus was very special and this promises to be a great show.
Get along to see Robin Fox destroy the world with his “Lazer”, Snuff Puppets present their gut churningho-down “The Dancing Cow Show” live on the street outside (James is musical director for the Snuff Puppets), and witness Post perform the “hottest tracks”from his “chillingly cool” new album. The impact of these acts combined will seriously blow your mind!
It’s all on at Horse Bazaar, 397 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne, from 8.30pm. And it’s only $5. Deal.
Then, on Friday night (1st December) you can get a glimpse of future genius at a concert for RMIT Sound Graduates. Check it out from 8pm at Kaleide Theatre, Building 8, RMIT, 360 Swanston Street, Melbourne.
And last, but not least, a rare performance by UK musician and writer David Toop at the Centre for Contemporary Photography 404 George St, Fitzroy, next Wednesday Dec 6th. Doors open at 7.30, for an 8pm start. Also performing – Essendon Airport and Robin Fox. $5 at door.
And as if all that isn’t enough.. it’s Triple R’s annual BBQ on Sunday afternoon.
Phew! A great edition of Symbiosis this week. We finished off November with two long form features. In the first hour, a look at the sonic universe of Scott Smallwood. And in the second hour, the Symbiosis Label Focus looked at San Diego label Accretions.
Next week:
6th December 2006: The monthly new release show.. a selection of the sounds that have been flying across the Symbiosis desk for the last month or so.
In the pipeline: NMA Tapes retrospective, 2006 recap
And coming up in the new year: Esa Ruoho (Lackluster), Aidan Baker, Aaron Ximm, RF
Have a great week,
Simon.
Symbiosis Playlist – 29th November 2006
Two features tonight:
In the first hour.. Scott Smallwood was born in Dallas, Texas, and grew up at 10,000 feet in elevation in the Colorado Rockies. When Smallwood was 10 years old, he received his first tape recorder, and ever since he has been fascinated by the possibilities of recorded sound. Currently based in New Jersey, Smallwood’s work deals with real and abstracted sound textures based on a practice of listening, improvisation, and phonography. Scott is currently a doctoral fellow in the music department of Princeton University.
And in the second hour.. The Symbiosis label focus returns with a look at San Diego label Accretions.
Accretions is an artist-based independent music label with an ear towards experimental, improvisational and global sounds.
