TomC3 – Project Polaroid ft. Kool Keith (Threshold Recordings)

“Project Polaroid, everything full-blast android, exaggerated b-boy…”

A collaboration between TomC3 and Kool Keith of Dr Octagon and Ultramagnetic MCs fame, Project Polaroid is an interplanetary sonic adventure, with low-fi darkness curling from each of the tracks. Despite all of the tracks having been produced on the 15 year old Akai MPC 60, TomC3 has managed to harness the gritty lo-fi sound aesthetic so that the production is enhanced by the approach and sound palette.

Proggy guitars, folk flute and more traditional funk samples are spattered amongst the Anticon style beats and Prince Po, Motion Man and Jihad the Ruffneck join Kool Keith as guest MCs. Their tight flows are meant to present a verbal diss to the current corporate conveyer belt MC, and with rhymes so kooky, eloquent and vocally sound, they seem to have quite a jab!

Project Polaroid has theatrical elements reminiscent of a B grade horror flick or sci-fi film; chunky and sometimes funky, forward thinking beats; and MCs with tongues like whips, laced with trips. Fans of Definitive Jux, Anticon and Lex Recordings will probably be enthused.
