Cyclic Defrost

An Australian magazine focusing on interesting music

Jesus With Me – self-titled (Psych-o-path)

I don’t know much about Jesus With Me, but I know they love Crazy Horse. Particularly the end of those epic electric jams around the Weld era. At the time Neil Young put out Arc, an addendum to the live album, a whole cd filled with those huge walls of guitar and booming drums that suggest they are having so much fun that they refuse to end the song. Jesus With Me have done away with the song altogether and focus instead on this specific part, the wall of noise freak out. With two guitars bass and drums, this all Russian immigrant quartet surprisingly are able to cover quite a bit of territory, oscillating between the violent exhausted arsenal about to fall apart to a feeling of strength and ecstatic noise. There’s even some guttural screaming during the second piece And they Sang a New Song. With two pieces clocking in at around fifteen minutes each this is the ultimate freak out music, roaring guitars booming bass and crashing percussion that seems to want to take you to a higher plane or perhaps just shear your face off.
