We’re sad to report that legendary Italian composer and multi instrumentalist Alessandro Alessandroni has passed away. He was 92.
He is probably best know for his whistle, which you could hear across numerous Ennio Morricone scores for Sergio Leone spaghetti westerns including a Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good The Bad and the Ugly, though he also contributed that incredibly distinctive heavily reverbed twangy guitar.
Aside from whistling he was a session musician playing guitar, keyboard, flute, sitar, as well as being a vocal choir leader and composer.
Though his role as a sideman often overshadowed his solo work, he created an infinite number of library recordings and scored numerous feature films such as Lady Frankenstein, The Mad Butcher, Any Gun Can Play and Killer Nun, as well as appearing on numerous Ennio Morricone, Bruno Nicolai, Piero Umiliani and Francesco De Masi and Nino Rota scores.
