Listen to Lord RAJA’s ‘Streets Of Rage’

Having produced 2015’s PARA full-length (last release for Ghostly) in upstate New York, Lord RAJA moved to Brooklyn after its release and found himself isolated in a live/work basement studio. Soon after, he joined Ghostly labelmates Shigeto and Heathered Pearls for an extensive European tour and found inspiration in the continent’s heady history of techno.

Returning to his basement armed with this new inspiration, RAJA composed a flurry of one-take productions, often making tracks in an evening and road testing them with walks to the waterfront when the rest of Brooklyn had gone to sleep.

Imbued in them all is what he describes as “micro-choices”—the practice of very simple effects and subtle sonic decision.

The bonus track on the album “Fox Den,” an 8 minute cosmic meander, was released as part of the Adult Swim singles series last year.

RAJA has a background in piano, keyboard and jazz percussion. Took on the name Lord RAJA during college at SUNY Purchase. His roots lie in classic hip-hop with vintage IDM, ambient, footwork, and experimental sound design, supplementing his music with world instruments, custom-made pedals and circuits and snippets from his parents collection of old Indian records.

Lord Raja’s ‘Amadeus’ EP is out now on Ghostly International. You can listen to ‘Streets Of Rage’ below;
