Marielle V Jakobsons (Date Palms) has released a stunning new video for the track “White Sparks” off her upcoming record Star Core. The video was made entirely using Jakobsons’ macro-cymatic instrument, which she developed herself and which turns analog translations of sound into water and light visuals. The macro-cymatic instrument takes sound and turns it into fluid motion, which is captured at the macro-photographic scale. The sound vibrations directly move a small layer of water, with wave variations appearing in reflected light on and through the water. It is inspired by cymatics, the art of making patterns appear on fluids with sound vibrations.

Jakobsons’ upcoming record Star Core revolves around minimalist synthesizer layers with melodic violin, flute, and vocals over elongated bass grooves. The songs on the album are Jakobsons’ version of devotional hymns, and they create a cosmic yet personal environment to slow down with and to get lost in.

Star Core is out on Thrill Jockey on August 19.
