Sven Libaek is one of Australia’s best unsung film composers. He returned to prominence recently when US filmmaker Wes Anderson used six of his pieces from the 1973 Inner Space Score, in Anderson’s 2004 film The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou. Yet Libaek, has many strings in his bow, from Muzak, to Hanna-Barbera cartoons, to library music, to producing the likes of the Atlantics in the 60’s, his career has had many twists and turns. Cyclic Defrost caught up recently with the Sydney based musician/ composer, and we will be running the piece later this week. So stay tuned.

In the meantime you can hear another side to Libaek on ‘In Nebular Orbit And Beyond’ from his 1974 space themed library record Solar Flares, which features the Australian designed synthesizer, the Qaser, a prototype of the first digital sampler, the Fairlight CMI.
