Susumu Yokota RIP

It’s been very sad today to hear of the untimely death of prolific Japanese artist Susumu Yokota at the age of 54. I can still remember the joy at travelling across town and tracking down some of his early recordings – in particular the incredible Image 1983-1998 (Leaf) with the haunting ‘Nisemono No Uta.’ Yokota’s music, even his more house orientated work, always possessed a certain stillness and simplicity that was both life affirming and emotionally affecting. Where most artists made tracks, Yokota changed worlds. He will be missed.

This from his current label Lo Recordings:

“We have just received this announcement from Yokota’s family.

‘It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Susumu Yokota who passed away on 27th March, 2015 at the age of 54 after a long period of medical treatment. We are deeply thankful to the people who listened to and supported Susumu’s music during his lifetime. Please accept our sincere apologies for the delay in this announcement, as we were until recently unacquainted with Susumu’s music industry contacts.’ 14 July. 2015 Susumu Yokota’s family
