David Evans – Driftwood: “…look beyond the steel and concrete to find beauty, subtlety and perhaps even humanity beneath an often brutal facade.”

Melbourne artist David Evans has a new album called ‘Transitions’ which is due out on Hungarian label 3LEAVES on 1st July. Transitions is made from what Evans calls ‘urban field recordings’, being fragments of sound from everyday life, and is a journey through a technological forest of material and imagined sounds.

Evans was co-founder and drummer of acclaimed Australian instrumental band This is Your Captain Speaking. His previous solo releases include 2013’s Domestic Cinema (New Weird Australia, Sydney), which was composed from field recordings of archaic equipment at the Telstra Telecommunications Museum in Melbourne; and 2011’s Internal Temporal Order (Sensory Projects, Melbourne), which was composed and performed on a standard acoustic drum kit and made during twenty-four hours of continuous work as part of The 24 Hour Drawing Project.

Enjoy the first glimpse of Transitions, the nine minute plus Driftwood, a tranquil near ambient work of hypnotic experimental beauty. For more information go here.
