Chubby Wolf – Los Que No Son Gentos (Dragons Eye)

It’s been two years since the passing of Danielle Baquet-Long and the evidence of her prolific creativity continues to be released and promulgated by her many friends and loving husband and collaborator Will Long. People familiar with the output of Celer, the collaborative project, will not find a great difference in the general attitude of the this solo work under the Chubby Wolf guise. It tends towards a scenic ambience of subtle electronic sculptures that evoke environments and a contemplative psyche. There is a certain mastery in the eliciting of discrete and gentle drones that fill the work and requires a keen ear and attention for a rewarding listening. There is a sense of the pristine and the undramatic about the work, and enveloped within miniature of variations of drones is a majestic view that a certain quietude suggests .

It is an album that combines a number of sources, bells, bass guitar, synthesizers, laptop and voice morphed into minimal ambient electronic sketches. The seeming sculptural nature of the 14 pieces would capture the ear of those with a sense of contemporary sound art, the construction of sound within immersive settings and the possibilities of sound for conveying psychological depth.
