As a general rundown of some of the prominent contemporary names in ambient/experimental music ‘For Nihon’ is an extensive sampler. When you add in the knowledge that 100% of the profits from the sale of he album will be donated to the Japan Earthquake relief Fund set up by New York’s Japan Society then the album elicits more interest. Many readers may be aware that ‘Unseen’ is a label which is home to the composer Keith Kenniff who releases under the alias of ‘Helios’, ‘Goldmund’ and ‘Mint Julep’ as well as writing music for film and television. ‘Unseen’ is run in conjunction with Hollie Kenniff who is part of the ambient project ‘Hollie and Keith Kenniff” and is featured on the ‘the track ‘Wind and distance’ as well as under her own name on the track ‘This Time Tomorrow’.

‘For Nihon’ contains 38 tracks on it’s two CD’s and contains among it’s contributions the works by these artists: Robin Guthrie & Harold Budd, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Peter Broderick, Goldmund, Biosphere, Hammock, Taylor Deupree, Rafael Anton Irisarri & Goldmund, Olafur Arnalds, Alva Noto, Max Richter and Ametsub. A number of the tracks were specifically composed with regards to the earthquake and all exhibit a reflective quietude that elicits a reverential mood that is more than the quotient of the predominance of modern classical meets ambient experimental.
