Koshowko – The Truth In Me (Clan Analogue)

Koshowko

In the wake of his remixes of B(if)tek and Disco Stu on Clan Analogue’s recent ‘Re: Cognition’ retrospective collection and a tour of Germany, this latest five track EP from Melbourne based producer Martin K under his Koshowko alias sees him traversing a divergent range of styles over its 20 minutes, ranging from club-centric house grooves through to more headphone-oriented downbeat soundscapes. Proceedings open here on a suitably opulent-sounding midtempo tip with the ‘Down On Your Knees edit’s of the title track, which sees clattering programmed beats and epic ascending synths providing a lush backdrop for heavily-treated vocoders and what sounds like vintage documentary samples, before Philosophy Of Sound’s remix of Koshowko’s 2006 collaboration with Winduptoys ‘Switched On’ shifts the gears up for a wander out into jazzy horn samples and streamlined nu-disco house grooves, a trajectory that’s also pursued by the closing, distinctly more club-geared ‘Easy Mix’ of ‘The Truth In Me.’ Elsewhere, ‘Lose What We Have’ sees Martin K introducing a more dubcentric aesthetic that threads heavily-processed spoken vocals with a swaggering backdrop of ragga sub-bass, delayed out percussion and psychedelic-sounding synth arpeggation, while ‘Promise Part 3′ sees Koshowko’s dubbier older track being given a vocal overhaul that thankfully retains the original’s driving bass grooves and eerie bleeping synth atmospherics. A welcome return from Koshowko that’s well worth tracking down.
