DJ Rupture – Miss Nemesis / Options (Ek-Ke)

0

Released on Swedish label Ek-Ke on 300 only white 7”, this latest slab of sound from DJ Rupture builds on the groundwork laid in his album Special Gunpowder. “Miss Nemesis’ starts with some traditional bongo drumming which is quickly corrupted by electronic breaks, with /rupture laying down layer after layer of instrumentation, from classical guitar to cello. It’s a far more avant-garde a track than you’ll find on most of Special Gunpowder and, along with his performance at Sónar 2005, perhaps indicates a slight shift in sound. The flipside, ‘Options’, continues the sound collage aesthetic, this time confining itself to a sparse presence, allowing the vocal piece from Gregory Whitehead’ Radio Radio to dominate, before inexplicably bringing in first an electric guitar and then a viola, all over /rupture’ trademark disparate beats. As an added bonus it comes in a really nice screened wallet, designed by Dhowst.
