Various - Soul Vibration #001

You’ll have to forgive my lack of excitement about this release; yet another various artists CD is released nominally filling a gap in dub/chill/breaks market. As per usual, this one offers the latest generation of “chill’ artists, this time from London. To give things one final garrotte, the Liquid Collective (who presumably set up Liquid Records) are an underground free party “crew’ who put on ecologically minded festivals. Cue track after track of spacey electronic dub with the odd sub-Enya vocal faded in, a few electronics-with-real-drumming tracks and someone who thinks Orbital still sound fresh.

It’s not that any of the artists featured make bad music, it’s just everyone has heard it so many times before: there really aren’ that many things you can do with floaty electronics. If you see this CD for sale for £2 or something, by all means go out and buy it, but if you’re expecting anything other than a deeply average album you’ll be very disappointed, especially if you paid full price.
