Bauchklang - Many People

The tag line on the sleeve of Many People is “vocal groove project”, a statement that perfectly describes the core of what Bauchklang do. As the vocal groove tag suggests, the human voice is the overridingly important instrument Bauchklang deploy, with other elements serving as a spring board for the lyrics. A collective of six musicians, all of whom contribute vocals, the Bauchklang sound can be best described as a combination of laid back, cut up breaks pioneered by groups such Laub and the soulful lyricism of people like Ben Mono. Occasionally retreating to a more regular beat, Many People retains a consistent sound, even when they take things downbeat on tracks like Radio.

Hailing from Vienna, a capitol that is proving that not only the Germans can make good electronic music, Bauchklang have a European cool that is difficult define in musical terms. They have succeeded in creating a hybrid of organic vocal instrumentation, funk guitar and modern electronic beats; all chopped, cut and pasted back together to form an entirely new species.
